Preview - Welcome to the Future

Here is a preview of my next ebook which will be a collection of short stories set in an environment in 2050 where the gender roles and clothes are inverted. To shows how people dealt with the situations.

EPILOGUE – THE INTRODUCTION

It is the year 2050 and the world had changed completely with the inversion of gender roles. Now women wear the pants literally and men wear the sarees, salwars, skirts, dresses or even abayas, niqaab, burqa based on the culture and country.

This tectonic shift happened gradually over the past two decades. It started with girls outperforming boys at schools and colleges while boys spent their time playing Play stations, X Boxes and running around girls or loafing with friends.

Slowly by 2025 more 50% of the workforce was women, especially in the corporate sector. Women found a new zeal, passion and hunger for success.

By 2030 the numbers increased to 70% worldwide. Also the number of women in higher management was 80%. 90% of the companies all over had an all women Board of Directors.

Almost all households had women as the main bread winners relegating the men to secondary positions.

Surprisingly most men took it as a boon than a bane. They felt they could chill at home not having to work while the women juggled with the household chores as well as their daily jobs. The men guzzled beers spending their time in front of TV’s while the women sweated out.

At around this time the fashion industry started to cater for the changing societal norms. Since most women were working the fashion stores released new clothes targeting the women. As sarees. Skirts or chudidars were not practical for every day wear women’s shirst and trousers were introduced. Since most of them used two wheelers and teh younger girls especially drove bikes so pants were an obvious choice for them.

Initially the women’s clothes although were trouser based were designed in a feminine way. But as the demand grew and based on customer feedback  the designs started to become more masculine with women in double breasted suits being a common sight worldwide.

Like every other walk of life even politics too started turning a new leaf. The USA got it’s first Black woman president, India its first Muslim woman prime minister. Most countries including a few muslim countries had woman head of states.

As result slowly the feminist agenda was started to be introduced on to the society.

It started with the United Nations passing a resolution that only working persons above the age of 18 irrespective of their gender should be allowed to vote. Thus cutting the male vote bank by more than 3/4^th of its size.

Slowly more and more laws and bills were being approved by parliaments which titled the balance towards women.

As women got more power those some of them started dominating their husbands. Slowly men started getting feminised. The fashion industry which is quick to identify the trends latched on to it and introduced clothes for men which although were still pant shirts were designed in a distinctly feminine way. The button on the shirts were the wrong way as the shirts were in fact blouses. Most pants didn’t have pockets and had side zippers which meant men were forced to sit for peeing and carry their wallets in their hands.

By 2050 the clothing stores no longer had even a single pair of pants for men as that was considered exclusively for women just like sarees, skirts etc were considered exclusively for men.

We shall read various one-off short stories of several people and how dealt for were forced to deal with the changing circumstances cutting across countries and culture set in the above environment.
